The Warriors screens at the Rio

FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of director Walter Hill‘s 1979 action-thriller The Warriors, about a rag-tag gang from Coney Island that gets falsely blamed for a murder and has to fight its way home from the Bronx.
FRIDAY: former Junkhouse and current Blackie & the Rodeo Kings member Tom Wilson performs with his son Thompson Wilson at Langley’s Bez Arts Hub, with guest John Aaron Cockburn. Here’s my interview with Tom Wilson from 1995.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Come From Away, Irene Sankoff and David Hein’s musical inspired by the true events of September 11, when 7,000 stranded airplane passengers were welcomed by the residents of Gander, Newfoundland, runs until July 26 at the Arts Club Theatre Company’s Stanley BFL Canada Stage.

Garret T. Willie performs at FIFA Fan Fest
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the FIFA Fan Festival on the PNE Grounds at Hastings Park features live broadcasts of FIFA World Cup games and live music by the John Butler Band, Blackie & the Rodeo Kings, Garret T. Jacob’s Ladder screens at VIFF Centre
SATURDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of director Adrian Lyne’s 1990 psychological-horror film Jacob’s Ladder, about an American postal worker whose experiences during his military service in Vietnam result in bizarre hallucinations.
SATURDAY: Canadian blues-rock one-man-band Steve Hill performs at White Rock’s Blue Frog Studios.
SATURDAY & SUNDAY: showing nightly until June 30 at the Dome, Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon is an immersive, 42-minute, 360° surround-sound journey through deep space, alien worlds, and celestial landscapes, featuring music from the legendary prog-rock band’s 1973 album.

Walking Tour from Clark Park
SUNDAY: the Last Gang in Town Walking Tour, starting at Clark Park, examines East Vancouver’s gang history of the ’70s, guided by local writer and historian Aaron Chapman and former Clark Park gang members Bradley Bennett and Danny “Mouse” Williamson.
