FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: showing nightly until August 31 at the Dome, Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon is an immersive, 42-minute, 360° surround-sound journey through deep space, alien worlds, and celestial landscapes, featuring music from the legendary prog-rock band’s 1973 album.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Come From Away, Irene Sankoff and David Hein’s musical inspired by the true events of September 11, when 7,000 stranded airplane passengers were welcomed by the residents of Gander, Newfoundland, runs until August 16 at the Arts Club Theatre Company’s Stanley BFL Canada Stage.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the Vancouver Canadians take on the Spokane Indians in Minor League Baseball action at Nat Bailey Stadium.
Clue runs at the Queen E
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: Broadway Across Canada presents Clue, a play based on the 1985 comedy-mystery film and inspired by the classic Hasbro board game, running until August 2 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: That Green Ideal: Emily Carr and the Idea of Nature, running until November 8 at the Vancouver Art Gallery, features more than 100 works by the iconic B.C. artist, exploring in-depth her obsession with the landscape of the Pacific Northwest.
SATURDAY: the Vancouver Whitecaps take on Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer action at BC Place.
The Graham Brown Band plays Princeton Pub
SATURDAY: Vancouver’s Graham Brown Band, featuring former Jr. Gone Wild and Brilliant Orange singer-guitarist Graham Brown, plays the Princeton Pub. Here’s my interview with Graham Brown from 2022.
SATURDAY: screening at VIFF Centre of directors Joel and Ethan Coen’s 1996 crime-comedy Fargo, about a hapless North Dakota car salesman who hires two criminals to kidnap his wife.
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY: the 50th annual Powell Street Festival at Oppenheimer Park and surrounding areas features over 80 free programs, including art installations, film screenings, traditional dance, literary events, and martial arts demonstrations.
The Pride Parade begins near BC Place
SUNDAY: the Vancouver Pride Parade, which begins at Pacific Blvd. near BC Place and travels to Howe Street and Pacific Blvd., features over 100 local community groups, non-profit organizations, and businesses showing their support for the city’s 2SLGBTQAI+ communities.
