That time I asked Gary Rossington about first meeting Dale Krantz and he let her answer that one

By Steve Newton

I’ve been a huge Lynyrd Skynyrd fan ever since I first heard Pronounced, so it was a real kick to get to interview Gary Rossington back in 1986. (As dedicated Skynyrd fans know, that was also the year a drunk Allen Collins crashed his new Ford Thunderbird, paralyzing himself from the waist down and killing his girlfriend.)

At the time Rossington was promoting the debut album by his band Rossington, which featured his wife, Dale Krantz-Rossington, on lead vocals. They called me from New York and, through the then-new wonder of the conference call, I talked to them both at the same time!

At one point I asked Gary about first meeting Dale, and he, ever the gentleman, let her answer that one.

  1. A huuuuge (lol) fan of Dale’s! I loved singing and performing her songs, since the first time I sat down at a friend’s and heard all of, Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere.
She inspired me with both her VOCAL ABILITIES, and how she expresses the LYRICS. Never be another like you in my book, Lady D!
Props to Steve Newton. For writing this piece.
