FRIDAY: Quebec City acrobatic troupe FLIP Fabrique plays with gender roles in its contemporary circus show Muse at the Vancouver Playhouse.

FRIDAY: Vancouver Blues Around Town presents local blues-rockers the Al Walker Band at the Mel Lehan Hall at St. James.

Verreault/Gestrin/Proznick Trio plays Osita’s

FRIDAY: Vancouver guitar wizard Shaun Verreault, frontman for blues-rockers Wide Mouth Mason, joins up with keyboardist Chris Gestrin and drummer Tim Proznick at Osita’s.

FRIDAY: the East Van Laugh Riot, hosted by Charlie Demers at the Rio Theatre, features comedy by Yumi Nagashima and Kyle Bottom, plus guests Alain Williams and Graham Clark.

True Romance screens at the Rio

FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of director Tony Scott’s Quentin Tarantino-penned 1993 action flick True Romance, starring Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette.

SATURDAY: Australian surf-punk trio Dune Rats play the Rickshaw Theatre, with guests Chastity and Little Destroyer.

SATURDAY: local boogie-rockers La Chinga play Bully’s Studios in New Westminster, with guests the Getmines and Noodle Boys.

SATURDAY: East Van garage/soul rockers the Vanrays celebrate the release of their new album Put it Out at the Fox Cabaret, with glam-rock guests Clone.

Carole King: Home Again screens at VIFF Centre

SATURDAY: screening at the VIFF Centre of the new concert documentary Carole King: Home Again–Live in Central Park, which depicts her homecoming concert at New York City’s Central Park in May of 1973.
