FRIDAY: late-night screening at the Rio Theatre of Basket Case director Frank Henenlotter’s 1990 horror-comedy Frankenhooker, about a New Jersey mad doctor who rebuilds his girlfriend with body parts from exploded hookers.
FRIDAY: as part of Black History Month, Sound the Alarm: Music/Theatre presents Ebony Roots, a concert at the Yaletown Roundhouse featuring performances by Brandon Thornhill (vocals), Carlos Joe Costa (percussion/flute), Leo D.E. Johnson (vocals/guitar), Olaf de Shield (guitars/vocals/arranger), Russell Jackson (bass/vocals), and Wayne Stewart (keyboard/vocals).

The Carnival Band plays Grandview Legion
FRIDAY: fundraiser at the Grandview Legion for the Greenhorn Community Music Project–which provides free and accessible music education and band performance experience for local youth– features performances by the Vanrays, Balkan Shmalkan, and the Carnival Band.
FRIDAY AND SATURDAY: the Vancouver Symphony performs Ludwig Göransson’s Oscar-winning score of Black Panther during a screening of director Ryan Coogler’s 2018 superhero film at the Orpheum Theatre.
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: 31 emerging and seasoned local designers and makers were selected to create 22 objects made from vintage mahogany for Reclaim + Repair: The Mahogany Project, running until August 7 at the Museum of Vancouver.

Denyse Thomasos exhibit at the VAG
FRIDAY TO SUNDAY: the work of late Trinidadian-Canadian artist Denyse Thomasos is featured in the career retrospective Denyse Thomasos: just beyond, running until March of 2024 at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
SATURDAY: Icon Concerts presents two shows at the Vogue Theatre by American standup comedian Chris D’Elia.
SATURDAY: Scream the Sorrow is an emo night at the Rickshaw Theatre, featuring performances by Cordelia, Helicopter Holiday!, Without a Crown, and Blood of the Phoenix.
SATURDAY: Basically Good Media Lab and Emily Carr University of Art + Design present a screening at the Cinematheque of Goodbye to Language, Jean-Luc Goddard’s 2014 3D film about an extramarital affair, twice told with two sets of actors. In French with English subtitles, and featuring a video introduction by Toronto-based filmmaker Blake Williams, who specializes in stereoscopic media.
